The Mesozoic Lacustrine Revolution
نویسنده
چکیده
The Mesozoic lacustrine revolution (MLR) represents a major evolutionary event in the continental realm (Cohen 2003 ). The decline in taxic diversity at the family level in lacustrine environments that took place during the late Paleozoic–Middle Triassic was reversed later in the Mesozoic, with diversifi cation seeming to have continued to the Quaternary, although potential biases may have affected this trend (Cohen 2003 ). Major novelties and innovations that took place in lacustrine

Effects of the Mesozoic Marine Revolution on the taxonomic, morphologic, and biogeographic evolution of a group: aporrhaid gastropods during the Mesozoic
-The mid-Mesozoic time was characterized by massive reorganization of the ecological structure of benthic marine communities. Although the general pattern of this "Mesozoic Marine Revolution" has been extensively documented, little is known about how it affected the taxonomic and morphologic diversities of individual lineages of organisms. Here I document group-level dynamics of the Mesozoic ch...
متن کاملMarine transgressional events in the gigantic freshwater lake Songliao: paleontological and geochemical evidence
The fossil remains of euryhaline organisms in the Mesozoic±Cenozoic, non-marine sedimentary records of eastern China may have resulted from either marine transgressions or inland hypersaline lacustrine environments. Paleontological and organic geochemical results of this study have provided new evidence for marine transgressional events in the gigantic freshwater lake Songliao during the late C...
متن کاملType Material of the Type Species of the Classic Theropod Footprint Genera Eubrontes, Anchisauripus, and Graliator (early Jurassic, Hartford and Deerfield Basins, Connecticut and Massachusetis, U.s.a.)
The classic Early Jurassic age theropod footprints Eubrontes giganteus. Anchisauripus sillil1Ulni. and Grallator parallelus were established by Edward Hitchcock in 1836-1847 and are the type ichnospecies of their respective ichnogenera. We identify, describe, and figure the type specimens in detail for the first time since they were named. We also figure and describe the other elements of the t...
متن کاملMolecular clocks indicate turnover and diversification of modern coleoid cephalopods during the Mesozoic Marine Revolution
Coleoid cephalopod molluscs comprise squid, cuttlefish and octopuses, and represent nearly the entire diversity of modern cephalopods. Sophisticated adaptations such as the use of colour for camouflage and communication, jet propulsion and the ink sac highlight the unique nature of the group. Despite these striking adaptations, there are clear parallels in ecology between coleoids and bony fish...
متن کاملPost-Paleozoic crinoid radiation in response to benthic predation preceded the Mesozoic marine revolution.
It has been argued that increases in predation over geological time should result in increases in defensive adaptations in prey taxa. Recent in situ and laboratory observations indicate that cidaroid sea urchins feed on live stalked crinoids, leaving distinct bite marks on their skeletal elements. Similar bite marks on fossil crinoids from Poland strongly suggest that these animals have been su...
